Contractor's Guide to Concrete Debris Removal in Blount County

TL;DR: For a Blount County contractor, concrete tear-out disposal in 2026 is straightforward. SMSG's Maryville yard at 245 Brookdale Rd is free inbound right now (grand-opening promo, unlimited volume), sits 5 to 20 minutes from every population center in the county, and takes concrete with rebar attached. Every county has its own rhythm for demo and disposal. Blount County's is defined by three things: the geography (mountains east, TVA lakes west, everything running north to Knoxville), the main highways (US-129, US-411, SR 33), and the fact that most tear-out jobs cluster in a handful of cities. This guide is written specifically for the Blount contractor doing residential and light-commercial concrete work.

Where the work is:

• Maryville: the county seat, biggest population base, most of the residential rebuilds. Central Maryville is 5 to 10 minutes from our yard on Brookdale Rd.
• Alcoa: fast-growing commercial corridor along US-129 and Alcoa Highway. Airport-adjacent industrial pads, retail rebuilds, and Springbrook Corporate Center. 5 to 8 minutes from us.
• Rockford: residential and light-industrial along US-411 south of Alcoa. 8 to 12 minutes.
• Louisville: TVA-lake residential, Tellico Village extension market, boat storage pads. 15 to 20 minutes via Louisville Road.
• Friendsville: north Blount, mostly residential and small commercial. 15 to 20 minutes via SR 33.
• Townsend: gateway to the Smokies, tourist-adjacent construction, cabin foundations. 25 to 30 minutes east on US-321.
• Walland and Wildwood: rural residential, smaller job sizes. 15 to 25 minutes.

Every one of those is closer to our Brookdale Rd yard than to Blount County Landfill on Bowers Ln for most residents, and dramatically closer than driving out of county to a Knox transfer station.

Where the yard sits

245 Brookdale Rd, Maryville, TN 37801. Off Old Niles Ferry Road, about 8 minutes off US-129. If you're coming from Alcoa, get off US-129 at the Louisville Rd exit, head south, right on Brookdale. If you're coming from central Maryville, take Broadway to Old Niles Ferry, west, then Brookdale.

There's a sign at the gate. If your truck can hold a load of concrete, it can get in and out of our yard.

What you save right now

Under the grand-opening special active since August 2026, inbound concrete and asphalt are free. No tipping fee, any truck size, contractor or homeowner.

Compare against Blount County Landfill's ~$60/ton for concrete:

• 3-ton pickup load: saves ~$180
• 7-ton dump trailer load: saves ~$420
• 14-ton dump truck load: saves ~$840
• 20-ton roll-off load: saves ~$1,200

Over a busy quarter, that's real margin. This promo won't run forever. When it ends, our normal tipping fee will still sit below landfill rates, but the "unlimited free" window is worth using now.

Hauling options if you don't self-haul

Sometimes it makes more sense to have someone else move the load. Our published Blount County rates:

• Dump trailer (7 tons / 3.5 yd): $225 first trip, $175 each additional
• 10-yd roll-off (3-day rental included): $425
• 20-yd roll-off: $550
• 30-yd roll-off: $650
• Dump truck (~14 tons / 10 yd): $325 per trip

When to pick which:

• Small job, one shot: dump trailer trip. Cheapest for small residential.
• 1-2 day job with rolling load-out: 10 or 20-yd roll-off. Container sits, crew fills gradually.
• Multi-day tear-out or bigger commercial: 30-yd roll-off or dump truck rotation.
• 5+ loads or 20+ yards total: call for a project quote instead of stacking per-load rates.

Rough job examples in each Blount city

Maryville residential driveway tear-out (1,200 sq ft, 4-inch unreinforced). Weight: ~30 tons broken. That's 4 dump-trailer trips or one 30-yd roll-off filled carefully to weight limits. Self-haul with the trailer: $225 + $175 + $175 + $175 = $750 hauling, $0 tipping, total $750. Same job to Blount Landfill: $750 hauling + (30 x $60) = $2,550. Delta: $1,800.

Alcoa commercial pad rebuild (3,000 sq ft, 6-inch reinforced). Weight: ~116 tons. This is over-the-threshold, project-quote territory. Rough guide: 8 dump-truck trips at $325 = $2,600 hauling, $0 tipping at SMSG. Same load through the landfill: $2,600 + (116 x $60) = $9,560. Delta: $6,960.

Rockford residential sidewalk replacement (400 sq ft, 4-inch). Weight: ~10 tons. Fits one 10-yd roll-off or 2 dump-trailer trips. Roll-off approach: $425, tipping $0. Trailer approach: $225 + $175 = $400, tipping $0. Landfill would add $600. Delta: $600.

Louisville waterfront pad demo (600 sq ft, 4-inch). Weight: ~15 tons. One dump truck at Blount rate: $325 hauling, $0 tipping. Total $325. Same at landfill: $325 + $900 tipping = $1,225.

Friendsville residential (900 sq ft, 4-inch). Weight: ~23 tons. 3 dump-trailer trips: $575 hauling, $0 tipping. Landfill version: $575 + $1,380 = $1,955. Delta: $1,380.

What we accept and what we don't

Blount County contractors know this by muscle memory but new haulers get tripped up here.

Yes:

• Broken concrete slab, sidewalk, curb, foundation walls, footings
• Concrete with embedded rebar or wire mesh, no extraction needed
• Broken asphalt slab and millings
• Chunks large or small, any residential-sized piece

No:

• Mixed C&D loads (wood, drywall, roofing, tile mixed in)
• Concrete with hazardous coatings, epoxy tank liners, painted-in-bulk lot markings
• Dirt or clay in significant volume mixed with concrete
• Anything asbestos-related
• Fuel or oil-contaminated concrete from spill sites

If you're not sure about a load, call (865) 999-0857 before you leave the site. We'd rather take a call than turn a truck at the gate.

Drop-off flow (first time)

1. Turn in from Brookdale Rd. Sign at the entrance.
2. Pull onto the scale at the gate. Give the attendant your name, company, and load type (concrete or asphalt).
3. Get pointed to the correct pile. Concrete goes one place, asphalt another. We keep them separate for cleaner RCA and RAP products on the outbound side.
4. Dump. Take a minute to knock off any big clods from tires before leaving the pile.
5. Weigh out. Grab your ticket if you need one for LEED, project docs, or job tracking.
6. Exit back to Brookdale Rd.

The whole process, no line, runs 8 to 15 minutes. Peak inbound traffic in Blount is weekday mornings 8-10am and afternoons 2-4pm. Show up in the middle of the day and you'll fly through.

What you can pick up on the way out

If you're tearing out and rebuilding, we run outbound material too. Everything crushed and screened from the piles you're dropping off gets sold back into new construction as:

• RCA #57 equivalent for drainage and drives
• 3/4-inch minus for compacted base
• 1-2 inch RCA for driveway top-dress and heavy sub-base
• Crusher run blends for compacted lifts
• Rip-rap sized for erosion control

Blount County landfill: when it still makes sense

Being straight: sometimes the landfill is the right call.

• Truly mixed C&D loads where you can't cost-effectively separate concrete on-site.
• Contaminated concrete from environmental sites, spill areas, or hazardous demo.
• Loads under half a ton where the drive-time delta doesn't matter.

For everything else in Blount County, the recycling yard wins on cost and speed. We're closer to Maryville, Alcoa, Rockford, Louisville, and Friendsville than most contractors would guess. Louisville, in particular, gets undercounted because people think of the landfill as "just up the road" when it's actually longer than the shot to Brookdale via US-411.

SR 33 and the north-Blount jobs

For Friendsville, Greenback, and the northern edge of the county, SR 33 is the main artery. From those job sites, hop on SR 33 south, US-321/Louisville Rd east, then Old Niles Ferry to Brookdale. Around 20 to 25 minutes with clear traffic.

If you're coming from Loudon County jobs on the western edge, US-411 south is your route. Same 20 to 25 minute range. We see a lot of Lenoir City and Loudon contractors coming this direction because there's no nearby recycling in Loudon proper.
