RCA Crusher Run in Maryville, TN
Recycled crusher run gravel for driveways, pads, and base. Serving Knoxville, Maryville, and East Tennessee.
The quick answer
Crusher run is crushed stone with the fines left in, so it packs down hard and stays put. We sell the recycled version: RCA crusher run, made from clean concrete crushed at our yard at 245 Brookdale Rd in Maryville. It is 3/4 inch minus, weighs about 1.4 tons per cubic yard, and is the go-to base for driveways, shed pads, and slabs.
Pick it up at the yard or have it delivered anywhere around Knoxville, Maryville, Alcoa, and the rest of East Tennessee.
RCA crusher run specs
| Material | Recycled concrete aggregate (RCA), crushed on site in Maryville |
|---|---|
| Size range | 3/4 inch minus: pieces up to about 3/4 inch down to dust |
| Fines | Yes. The fines are what let it lock together |
| Approx. weight | About 1.4 tons per cubic yard (compacted, in place) |
| Compaction | Excellent. Packs into a hard, stable surface with a plate compactor or roller |
| Drainage | Moderate to slow. Sheds water when crowned, but not a drainage stone |
Weights are approximate. Moisture and how tightly the material is compacted change the number a little from load to load.
Best uses for crusher run
- ✓Driveway base and gravel driveways (crown it so water runs off)
- ✓Shed pads, carport pads, and hot tub pads
- ✓Equipment and parking pads for trucks and trailers
- ✓Sub-base under concrete slabs, patios, and pavers
- ✓Base course under an RCA #57 or asphalt top layer
- ✓Building up low spots, farm lanes, and construction entrances
Lay it in lifts of about 3 to 4 inches and compact each lift. A little moisture helps it pack. For a driveway, 4 to 6 inches of compacted crusher run over firm subgrade handles everyday cars and pickups. For heavy trucks or soft ground, go deeper. Read our RCA driveway guide for the full install.
How much crusher run do you need?
Here is the coverage per 100 square feet (a 10 by 10 foot area) at common depths, using 1.4 tons per cubic yard.
| Depth | Cubic yards per 100 sq ft | Tons per 100 sq ft |
|---|---|---|
| 2 inches | 0.62 | 0.86 tons |
| 4 inches | 1.23 | 1.73 tons |
| 6 inches | 1.85 | 2.59 tons |
The math
Cubic yards = square feet x (depth in inches / 12) / 27
Tons = cubic yards x 1.4
Example at 4 inches: 100 x (4 / 12) / 27 = 1.23 cubic yards. 1.23 x 1.4 = 1.73 tons. A 12 by 50 foot driveway is 600 square feet, so 6 x 1.73 = about 10.4 tons.
Want it done for you? Plug your length, width, and depth into the gravel calculator. Add 5 to 10 percent for compaction and uneven subgrade.
RCA crusher run vs virgin crusher run
We only sell the recycled version. Here is how it stacks up against quarry stone in general terms, so you can decide if it fits your job.
| Factor | RCA crusher run | Virgin crusher run |
|---|---|---|
| Source | Crushed from clean concrete tear-outs | Blasted and crushed from a quarry |
| Compaction | Compacts hard, locks in place | Compacts hard, locks in place |
| Weight per yard | A little lighter, so a ton covers a bit more area | Slightly heavier per cubic yard |
| Look | Gray to tan, some color variation, the odd brick piece | Uniform gray or blue-gray |
| Environmental | Keeps concrete out of the landfill, counts as recycled content | New material mined from the ground |
| Where to buy here | Our Maryville yard | We do not sell virgin stone |
Bottom line: for a base that gets compacted and covered or driven on, RCA does the same work. If you need a specific DOT spec or a uniform decorative look, check with your engineer or call us to talk it through.

How our trucking service works →Crusher run FAQ
What is crusher run?
Crusher run is crushed stone that keeps everything from the largest size down to fine dust. The fines fill the gaps between the larger pieces, so it packs down into a hard, stable base. Ours is RCA crusher run, made by crushing clean concrete at our Maryville yard.
Is recycled crusher run as good as virgin crusher run?
For driveways, pads, and base under slabs it performs the same job. It compacts tight, carries trucks and equipment, and holds its shape. It can show a little more color variation and the odd bit of brick, which does not affect performance as a base.
How much crusher run do I need for a driveway?
Plan on about 1.73 tons per 100 square feet at 4 inches deep. A 12 by 50 foot driveway (600 square feet) at 4 inches needs roughly 10.4 tons. Use our calculator for your exact dimensions.
How much does crusher run cost near Maryville and Knoxville?
Call (865) 999-0857 for current pricing. The rate depends on how many tons you need and whether you pick up at the yard or want it delivered.
Can I pick up crusher run in my own truck or trailer?
Yes. Come to 245 Brookdale Rd in Maryville, Mon-Fri 7 AM to 5 PM or Saturday 8 AM to noon, and we load you. Know your truck or trailer weight limit before you come.
Does crusher run drain well?
Not as well as clean stone. The fines that make it compact also slow water down. If drainage is the main goal, use RCA #57 stone, or put #57 under or around the crusher run where water collects.
